Recently, Alibaba Group made an official announcement of a strategic partnership with Bailian Group which is under the governance of the Shanghai Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. The two parties plan to leverage their big data and Internet technologies in search of comprehensive cooperation in new retail formats, omnichannel distribution, payment and finance, logistics and membership systems, with the aim to develop the “New Retail”. Jack Ma’s move once again put “New Retail” commerce under the market spotlight. As a leading international business platform for retail solutions and trends, C-star closely follows market developments in this year's edition to launch its onsite Retail Forum under the theme of "China's Retail Revolution - The New Retail Concept and Future Solutions”. Newsletter October 2016

The bustling metropolis of Statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of China show national retail sales for food and beverage reaching RMB 1.2 trillion during October 1st to 7th, an increase of 10.7% over the same period last year. As a result, consumption in the retail, food and beverage industries has once again exceeded RMB 1 trillion for the second year in a row since its establishment during the Golden Week in 1999. Key enterprises in Chongqing, Hunan, Sichuan and Jiangsu saw sales increases of 13%, 12%, 11.6% and 11.1% respectively, while sales in Guangdong, Guangxi, Heilongjiang and Tianjin have increased by 11%, 10.8%, 10.6% and 10.5% respectively.
The outstanding growth numbers once again confirm the strong purchasing power of Chinese consumers. As a premium platform for trade and commerce in the retail industry, C-star 2017 has officially kicked off its first round of booth allocation. At the invitation of, China’s largest web portal for commercial real estate, the C-star team will attend the "2016 Experience in Commercial Real Estate Forum” in Shenzhen from Nov. 1-2. The event offers a great opportunity for in-depth discussion with tycoons in the commercial real estate sector with the aim to explore innovative shopping center concepts. The bustling metropolis of Shanghai has featured a “Buy Buy Buy” mode since the opening of Shanghai Shopping Festival 2016. Data revealed that during the 3 days preceding the festival (9-11 September), Shanghai’s 63 large commercial enterprises had achieved total sales of RMB 1.32 billion, up 11.8% over the 3-day run-up to last years’ celebration. Special events designed to attract quality-conscious consumers were launched for the first time, including “National Commodities Week”, “Shanghai Commercial Brands Trip”, and “Private Label Consumer Day”. METRO’s “German Commodities Week” offered quality goods from Germany, boosting 24.5% increased than last year; Takashimaya’s “Fun Shanghai” Third Anniversary focused on Shanghai local specialties to capture eyeballs and footfalls; Sam's Club’s “U.S. Commodities Week” featured unique food displays, tastings and special offers to attract visitors. These results show an obvious recovery in sight for offline traditional retailing. This year, shopping festival has witnessed overall growth in generally high-priced and high-quality imported brands. To remain competitive in this context, retailers must successfully combine product variety, themes and user experience.

This year's show attracted 7,616 visitors from 77 countries and regions, representing a 33% increase from 2015.The significant growth of C-star received high level of satisfaction from the exhibitors and the visitors. May 15 saw the closing day of the inaugural edition of C-star, Shanghai's International Trade Fair for Solutions and Trends all about Retail. On May 13-15 retail professionals from all around the world came to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) to see the latest retail technologies and trends for the Chinese market at C-star.  

The first edition of C-star featured an exceptionally high degree of professionalism - both exhibitor- and visitor-wise. On a net exhibition space of 5000 square meters, C-star featured 162 exhibitors from 23 countries. Visitor-wise C-star also surpassed everyone's general expectations. Despite being held for the first time, an astonishing number of 5721 visitors came to visit the show during the last three days. This further fosters C-star's status of being China's most international retail show.

The past two show days have been full of exciting events and opportunities for retail professionals to both grow their business and expand their knowledge. With speakers like Mrs. Anna Lin (GS/1), Mr. Chris Guo (Yi-Hao Dian) or Mr. Qusai Sarraf (IVIS Group UK) the C-star Retail Conference came to an end today and received high acclaim from its speakers and participants. The first show day of C-star comes to an end and featured numerous highlights. In the morning, the much anticipated C-star Retail Conference officially kicked off and gave retail professionals the chance to listen to speeches of industry peers from leading retailers such as Beijing Capital Retailing Group, Montblanc, METRO, Walmart. At this industry summit, VIP retailers like H&M, Mango, Nike or Rewe were present as attendees.

Visitor masses also flooded the Designer Village, C-star's special exhibition area with a focus on Shopfitting and Store Design. The fact that C-star is the only retail trade fair in China with an area especially dedicated to Shopfitting and Store Design makes it a trade fair of one of its kind. With its extraordinary booth designs and sophisticated design concepts the Designer Village is surely eye catching in C-star's exhibition hall.

Only one day left until the first edition of C-star, EuroShop's official satellite event in China, will kick off and take place at hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from May 13-15.
